Pivotal Growth Partners: What does a day in the life as Director of Construction look like?

Tom Achs: I provide project management, quality assurance, and design compliance in ground up, conversion and non-traditional construction projects. I’m accountable for the budgeting, organization, implementation, and scheduling of the projects through the Architects and General Contractors hired to perform the work. While acting as a protector of brand standards, I am  constantly working to streamline processes and efficiencies regarding store development. Anything related to the timeline or quality of a project can become a task on my daily to-do list. One thing is for sure, there’s never a dull moment.

 

PGP: What did you do prior to joining the PGP team?

TA: Prior to joining PGP, I worked in restaurant construction and project management. With nearly 4 decades of experience, my proven track record for achieving the desired results is due to my “create solutions, no excuses” attitude. Through strategic planning, scope development and implementation, I have consistently delivered the highest value and financial return to my clients. Having worked with brands such as Applebee’s, Starbucks Coffee, and Boston Market, I continue to build upon my trustworthy reputation.

 

PGP: What is the most fulfilling part of your job at PGP?

TA: There are many aspects of my job as Director of Construction that provide me with a sense of purpose and contentment. Having the ability to work in an environment where I can utilize my knowledge and skills to help others is extremely rewarding. I feel valued as a part of the greater PGP team. I am given the opportunity to collaborate with a variety of brands, which keeps things interesting while keeping me on my toes.
